Why Compostable is Best
A biodegradable product will turn back into soil given the right conditions - namely presence of moisture, heat and micro-organisms. However, it might take a long time, even years to achieve this. A compostable product biodegrades in a short space of time, fast enough to be part of an industrial composting process which usually takes 8-12 weeks.

At present, our natural starch cutlery is the only product which doesn't meet this criteria - the combination of material and thickness means that it is not suitable for commercial composting. We are currently developing a new version which will resolve this.

We work closely with the organics recycling industry in the UK, and help our clients to organize collections of mixed food and packaging waste through a number of carefully selected partners. We have run extensive trials with a variety of organics recycling systems in order to ensure that our products can be included in food waste collections.

Depending on the particular process which is used, the end products are either nutrient-rich compost, which is beneficial to agriculture, or methane which can be used to provide energy. Either way, discarded food and used Vegware disposables need not be considered waste!
