Innovation and Awards

Research and development of new materials and products is a key part of Vegware's mandate and our success. We don't simply distribute packaging - we conceive, design, and manufacture new and innovative products. Our approach is often to look at products which are widely used, and then develop low-impact versions.

We are proud of our compostable firsts, such as:

our hot cup lids - we were first to market with a compostable lid for hot cups. This won us many prestigious awards.
our CPLA cutlery, the first ever high-heat resistant compostable cutlery in Europe to be certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).
our double-walled hot cup - the UK's first completely compostable insulated cup. Made in the British Isles from GM-free EU materials, fully brandable with a 3-week lead and MOQ of just 5,000. Winner of Best New Product in the Climate Week Awards.
our soup container and lid combo - another compostable first, and price-competitive with non-eco equivalents.
our food prep gloves - our gloves are made of corn starch, not plastic, so they can simply go in the food waste recycling after use.
our glassine bags - the first compostable clear-window bag which can cope with hot cabinets!

February 2010: Cafe Society Awards - Vegware lids win product innovation of the year.
February 2010: Hotelympia Innovation Awards choose Vegware's compostable hot cup lid as a finalist in the design category. As part of our entry, we made a 77-second biopic about our lid!
November 2009: Striding Out picks Vegware's Joe Frankel as one of the UK's top 100 social entrepreneurs.
2006: National Green Apple Awards chooses Vegware as Scotland's Silver winner.
